It's a Dog's Life

Lastly, in short, Paws and Reflect: Exploring the Bond Between Gay Men and Their Dogs (Alyson Books), edited by novelist Neil Plakcy and dog breeder Sharon Sakson, is a fascinating sociological discussion. Twenty-five contributors share reminiscences about their pets and how they enriched their lives, including playwrights Edward Albee and Charles Busch, and filmmaker Jonathan Caouette. One funny entry, called "The Dog Who Outed Me," by London-based Kevin Anderson, even expresses the opinion of someone who doesn't really like dogs. His brother Jimmy's malamute is described as "the giant thing," yet he saves Kevin on a disastrous mountain hike and in a funny episode causes Kevin to out himself to his unsuspecting brother.
You can pick this book up and read one or two entries at a time — like I did — at your local bookstore, or you can actually buy it! It is an attractively designed book and one for posterity.
