Erotic Fiction

I've been writing erotic fiction since way back when they called it "porn." My first published story was called "The Cop Who Caught Me," and I sold it to Honcho Magazine for $75. That was a lot of money back then (still is today) and I was thrilled. I'm still writing and publishing stories. Below you'll find them organized by the anthologies I've edited for Cleis Books, the collections of my own stories I've put together, and a listing of the individual stories I've published elsewhere that I haven't collected yet myself. (If I've already put that story into a collection I'm not longer listing the anthology where it originally appeared, just to avoid confusion.)

Tough Guy Erotica

Tough Guy Erotica

One day I looked up and realized that I had written a whole lot of erotic fiction for anthologies and magazines. I thought I'd put together a collection of those stories myself. Then I realized I'd written even more than I thought, and that I had enough stories for three different collections. Each book has a selection of previously published stories, some from long-forgotten magazines and websites, as well as a few new stories.

My favorite, if I have to admit, is Tough Guy Erotica. These are my stories about construction workers, bears, cops, delivery men, and other hunky types. It's a funy, sexy collection.

Hot Steamy Shorts: An Erotic Voyage

A dozen sexy short stories about gay men falling in love and falling into bed. From Hawaii to Florida to spots around the world, Neil Plakcy takes you on a voyage of sexual exploration. These stories have all been previously published in anthologies or on websites, but this is the first time they appear together . Stories included are: “Slamming the Poet,” “Paniolo,” “Island Getaway,” “The Honolulu Hula,” “The Prince of Eisengraf,” “Creeling the Bridegroom,” “Heat Lightning,” “The Seductive Gaze of Don Juan Miguel,” “Photo Booth,” “The Capital of Thailand,” “Marine Guard,” “The Jasmine Hero,” and “A Voice in the Dark.”

Mr. Surfer: Romantic Erotica

Mr Surfer I've had a lot of fun writing erotic romance, and that comes through in the selection of stories in Mr. Surfer: Romantic Erotica. What makes something romantic, you might ask? I think it's about the happy ending, and about the romantic connection between the two guys, over and above the hot sex.

Travel with me to Hawaii, Florida, New York -- even outer space-- for these stories of hippies, rodeo cowboys, surfers, scientists, dog lovers and others. Imagine a planet where 90% of the population is gay, and one poor teen is singled out to procreate with woman-- and how he escapes. Fall in love with a baker, ride out a hurricane, and experience lomi-lomi massage.

Hope you feel as romantic after reading these as I did while writing them!

Pledge Class: An Erotic Education

Pledge Class College boys are one of the most frequent subjects of gay erotica, and I certainly have a collection of stories about them. They can be on or off campus, or even out in the wide world, but they're all hot and horny and ready for fun! The title story is one of my very favorites, about a fraternity initiation with a couple of surprising (and very sexy) twists.

After I finished my MFA thesis, Invasion of the Blatnicks, one character stayed with me: Junior, the construction superintendent. I just couldn't stop thinking about him and what happened to him after the book ended.

I spent a lot of time on construction sites, and Junior is based on many of the men I worked with-- wild, crazy guys who knew their way around concrete and drywall. He's also based on a guy I never knew, a man who worked at South Street Seaport before I got there. He was, by all accounts, just as crazy as Junior. One of the marketing girls had a party at her apartment, and this guy did vertical pushups against her wall, leaving high smudges where his stockinged feet rubbed against the paint.
Then he died, of an apparent drug overdose, and every day that marketing girl saw those smudges on her wall, too high for her to clean. I loved that image, and tried to bring some of that guy's character to Junior. In this story, he meets a woman who's not all she appears to be. Is the one to tame him? Read "Rhiannon" to find out. Not quite erotica, but it definitely has its erotic moments!

Mahu Men

mahu men erotica 200 WARNING: These are piece of erotic fiction, not crime fiction, though there may be mystery elements. This is a new and revised edition of the previously published book, confined only to erotica. Other crime stories featuring Kimo are collected in the anthology Accidental Contact.

Ten erotic stories set in the world of openly gay Honolulu homicide detective Kimo Kanapa’aka. Moving from pickups to murders, Kimo surfs the waves of his professional and personal lives in a sexy, sensual tropical paradise, where danger and desire lurk behind every palm tree.

The stories fill the gaps between the Mahu novels, showing Kimo dating as well as solving cases and establishing a relationship with his new detective partner. Mixing the sensuality of erotica with the sharp-edged attitude of mysteries, Mahu Men is a chance for new readers to meet Kimo, and for fans to delve more deeply into his world.

“One of Plakcy's gifts is for his secondary characters. Five stars for the overall effort and dazzling effect of these tales.” A.J. Llewellyn, author of the Last Warrior Series

“Plakcy’s storytelling is tight, flawlessly executed, eminently interesting and inspiring.” George Seaton, Out in Print.

Books in the Mahu series have reached the finalist stage for the Lambda Literary Awards as well as winning mystery fan awards.

Hard Hats

Hard Hats I spent five years working as a project manager on various shopping center construction sites, and the hard-working, hard-bodied guys I saw around me every day were the subject of some of my most intense fantasies. From the shirtless carpenters to the beefy laborers, there was plenty of guy candy.

I loved their macho posturing, and after a few months I was able to give and take with the best of them. I always had an eye out for a handsome guy, and for a secluded corner of the site where we could get together.

That experience inspired me to put together a collection for Cleis Press called Hard Hats, asking some of the best writers of gay erotica to turn their attention to the hard-hatted construction workers who had provided me with so much inspiration in the past. There's just something about a guy with a tool belt that turns me on, and I hope you'll feel the same way about the men in these very hot stories.

Take a trip to the top of a highrise under construction, or down in to the belly of a mine. Hang out in the backyard with some hunky landscapers or roofers, slip into a construction manager's RV or into a storefront under construction. Wherever you go, you'll find sexy, men-loving men who are turned on by their buddies' tools. In this world, the hats aren't the only things that are hard!

Surfer Boys

Surfer Boys

When Cleis asked me to edit a second anthology for them, based on the title Surfer Boys, how could I refuse? I've built a literary career around a sexy Hawaiian surfer.

But I knew that I had to broaden the reach of this book, so I encouraged some terrific writers to send me stories of surfer boys around the world-- from Australia to the Jersey shore, from Florida to a little island off the coast of Tunisia.

It's a very sexy book!

Skater Boys

Skater Boys Two words describe the appeal of skateboarders: barely legal. It takes a tough and independent young man to find the best places to shred, so it’s no wonder skaters have become the object of fantasies by gay men: brimming with attitude and sexual confidence, skaters are athletic and quick to shed their shirt. Besides being rough and ripped, the hot young studs in Skater Boys all have one additional thing in common — a love of gay sex. Teen shredders get it on with each other in “Slash-n-Burn,” “Carter DuBose,” and “Totally Choice.” Older men get their share of boarder bootie in “Sex in the Streets” and “In This Our Day.” “Something to Remember You By” and “Boyz in the ‘Hood” pack an emotional punch, while "Kick, Push" and "It's Not About Love" are just great fun. Take a ride with the uninhibited, wild young men of Skater Boys.

The Handsome Prince

The Handsome Prince We all know the fairy tale. The handsome prince comes riding up on his white stallion and rescues the beautiful princess from her enchantment with a single kiss. Then they ride off together to live happily ever after.

But what if, as in my own story, "The Prince of Eisengraf," the person longing for that handsome prince is a man himself? I love the way the stories in this anthology find so many different ways of turning the story into something very different, but with the same outcome.

This book is a mix of traditional and contemporary stories, each with its own unique fairy-tale atmosphere . Sometimes the prince is the one who needs rescuing, as in "Chauffeur Prince" and "Creosote Flats and the Big Spread." Sometimes the true prince is the other guy--like in "The Virgin Prince and the Rebel Chief" and "Reckless." There is humor and charm in these stories, with an underlay of passion and desire.

The one thing these stories have in common, along with the original fairy tales, is a happy ending. Whether it's a HEA--happily ever after--or a HFN-happy for now--when these guys find their princes, hot steamy sex ensues.

Model Men

Model Men Who hasn't experienced a pang of lust or longing at a photo of a male model? Whether a hundred times life size on a billboard, or romping through the pages of a glossy magazine in his Calvins, Tommys or Ralphs, the male model is the gold standard for masculine beauty.

The characters in these stories run the gamut, from the billboard-gracing Aiden in Cynthia Hamilton's "Big Picture," to life models in drawing classes, to runway models, to ordinary guys immortalized in a catalog shoot in T. Hitman's "When Gary Met Larry." They hook up with artists, photographers, roommates and lovers, in locations from New York to Miami to a beach in Australia, and many places in between.

One thing all the male models here have in common is sex appeal and a yen for man-on-man action. These aren't the kind of guys who say, "look but don't touch" -- they want to be touched, and in all the right places!

Sexy Sailors

The British poet John Masefield wrote, "I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky." That poem expresses the yearning so many men have, to strike out for unknown waters in tall ships steered by stars. There's a romance to the water-borne life that comes from our longing to see new ports and to challenge ourselves in new ways.

From mariners on huge yachts to river boatmen to recreational boaters, the combination of men and water is irresistible. All the guys in this collection have all fallen under the spell of the open water, and when you read their stories, you will, too. You'll sail from the canals of Britain to the crystal-blue tides of the Caribbean, from the ancient walled cities of Croatia to the San Francisco of the Gold Rush, and to many ports of call in between.

Masts, yardarms, jack lines -- the language of sailors seems tailor-made for men who love men. Who hasn't admired a naval officer in his dress whites, or a lithe, tanned young man skimming across the water in control of a huge sail? And the water provides a convenient way to get men into (or out of!) tiny bathing suits as well.

The sexy sailors in this collection run from college boys seeking boyfriends to naval officers to older yachties with silver flecks in their hair. There are lots of well-worked muscles grinding winches to set and control sails, steer from the helm, or tack to starboard as these stories veer from history to fantasy to present-day action.

Beach Bums

There's something so sexy about a beach-and the men who hang around it. Whether it's on the ocean, a lake, or a New Zealand river, beaches mean water and sunshine and handsome guys showing off what God or genetics gave them.

Pick any beach around the world, and you're bound to find excellent eye candy. These gorgeous guys are the stuff of gay fantasy-from sleek swimmers to muscular surfers and boarders to sun-worshipping naturists. Their skins are toned golden brown, and their bodies shimmer with droplets of water.

The stories in this collection showcase those beach bums. From a Massachusetts winter to a hot Oregon summer, tropical St. Maarten to Venice's Muscle Beach, sweethearts and strangers meet for love, seduction and sex to the accompaniment of the crashing surf. Younger guys, older guys, beach volleyball players and bodybuilders-they're all hot and they're all here.

Active Duty

With the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, the military is changing, and there's no more need for gay servicemen to stay in the closet. No more furtive encounters in restrooms, no more angst about the loss of a career for a single indiscretion. Instead, consider the supply clerk who displays a rainbow flag discreetly on his desk. The lieutenant who can now march in a pride parade in his dress whites. The drill sergeant who no longer has to tolerate anti-gay epithets.
What’s sex like when jarheads, bird colonels and platoon daddies don’t have to hide any more? When medics, jet jockys, and PFCs can be proud of their military service?

Take This Man

When the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was struck down by the Supreme Court, I was inspired to create an erotic anthology focused on committed couples. Many erotic stories focus on the thrill of first contact, but I wanted to do something different, taking a close look at how much sexier an encounter can be when the two men involved have been together for long enough to make a commitment to each other. Formalized or not, the fact remains that knowing what turns your partner on — and vice versa — makes encounters even hotter, especially when the erotic encounter is an expression of an emotional bond.

The Gentleman and the Spy

gentleman 200 Can a lord and valet find love in Victorian England?

I'm a huge fan of British historical gay romance, like that written by K.J. Charles and Cat Sebastian, among others. So a year or more ago I decided to try my hand at one. Though many of those are earlier, I wanted to focus on the Victorian era—specifically December, 1877. I can’t say exactly why. But I read a lot of Victorian literature in college and graduate school, so I felt familiar with the era.

I began by with research on the common tropes. Inheritance is a big one, because many of the grand estates were entailed—they were often tied to a title, and the property could only be inherited by the holder of the title. Younger sons were left to find their own way in the world once their father died.

Class differences were also big, and the idea of an upstairs/downstairs romance was frowned upon. I set out to incorporate those tropes into an MM romance.

I began with Lord Magnus Dawson, the third son of a duke. His oldest brother will inherit, while the second son has been set up with a tea plantation in in Ceylon. Magnus’s father bought him a military commission, but when the Duke became ill, Magnus sold his commission to look after his dying dad. The book begins with the Duke’s death, and Magnus realizing he will soon be cut off and needs to find a way to make a living.

One of the ways a young man could succeed back then was by education, and Toby Marsh’s father, a wealthy manufacturer, sends him to King’s College and then to Cambridge. Unfortunately, the senior Marsh dies before Toby can finish his degree, and he’s forced to serve as a valet slash tutor to his wealthy dissolute roommate. When the book opens, he’s struggling to make a living as a freelance tutor in Cambridge. Then an unusual summons arrives, which will put him in close quarters with Magnus.

Love blossoms between them—but can it survive against the stigmas of the Victorian era? One of my beta readers wrote, “I was completely taken with Magnus and Toby and their personal back stories.” I hope you will be, too!

The Russian Boy

A stolen erotic painting and the gay men who love it.

There are three Russian boys at the center of this book. Alexei Dubernin, the teenaged son of a Russian count, longs to paint like his Impressionist idols. This desire brings him in contact with the Russian maestro Fyodor Luschenko in Nice, France, in 1912, as the Russian aristocracy celebrates its last few years of prosperity on the Riviera.

Luschenko paints an erotic portrait of Alexei, called Le Jeune Homme Russe, or The Russian Boy, which is received with scandal, then acclaim.

Then, in the present day, the painting is stolen while being restored-- by another Russian boy, an art student in Paris named Dmitri Baranov. Dmitri's desperation to remain in Paris after his fellowship ends leads him into unsavory company, bringing him, and the painting, back to the Cote d'Azur, where someone is willing to stop at nothing-- including murder-- to possess this magnificent work of art.

Hard on Dmitri's trail, and that of the painting, is his boyfriend, American art student Taylor Griffin, and Rowan McNair, a disgraced former professor of art history turned art detective. Partners change, affairs are begun and ended, and dead bodies appear with a disturbing regularity. In alternating narrations, Alexei, Dmitri, Taylor and Rowan tell the story of the painting, its theft, and a series of love affairs between older men and their younger protégés. By turns sexy, dangerous and romantic, The Russian Boy is a story of love and art that spans the ages.

The Cat Who Got Married

Five of my favorite M/F romances -- with happy endings and cats!

Pilar is a six-toed Abyssinian cat, whose forebears lived with Ernest Hemingway at his house in Key West. When she and her owner, Ryan, move up north, they both have a hard time getting accustomed to the cold weather—until Ryan starts to get pointers from his lovely coworker, Lisa.

In true feline fashion, Pilar can’t resist sticking her six-toed paw into the budding romance between Ryan and Lisa—with charming, and sometimes surprising, results, in the first two stories in this collection.

In “The Temple of Lights,” efficiency expert Robert Lehmann discovers just how much havoc a woman can bring to his life, while the funny-naïve heroine of “You’re Pretty When You Smile, Ima Jean” goes out in search of her life and finds something she wasn’t looking for. And in the final story, “The Cat Who Ran Away,” the sleek, regal Rajah leads Susan to figure out that perhaps you really can go home again.

Men and women meet, fall in love and stumble over obstacles in these stories, but the ending is always a happy one.

David and Jonathan: An M/M romance from the Bible

A gay love story from the Bible-- in a way you've never seen it before!

When I was looking for a Biblical verse to use in a same-sex wedding ceremony in The Same Page, the tenth of my Have Body, Will Guard adventure romances, the famous quote from the first book of Samuel in the Old Testament jumped out at me. “The soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” (1 Samuel 18:1.)

Beautiful, right? The kind of statement that makes a romance reader and writer like me swoon. When I finished The Same Page, I was still caught up in the beauty of that phrase, and I went back to the Old Testament and began to read through the books of Samuel, looking for more about the relationship between David and Jonathan. I couldn’t understand the way the story jumped back and forth in time, so I spoke to my rabbi, who told me that the story of David is thought to have been written by a few different authors, each with his own agenda.

I decided to take the basics of that story and spin an MM romance out of it. I’d write the story of David and Jonathan the way I wanted to read it. I did my best to incorporate bits of the book of Samuel as appropriate, including a few quotes, and I tried when possible to mimic the Biblical language in the speech of the characters.

I don’t believe that the men of Jonathan and David’s time had prejudice against same-sex relationships, as long as the men involved recognized that they would need to marry women eventually and bring forth the next generation. So I delved into the sexual relationship between these two men, and I hope in doing so I’ve illuminated their story and made it accessible to romance readers.
